Automatic Wi-Fi Switching

GivLocal can automatically switch between your local network connection and Tailscale depending on which Wi-Fi network your phone is connected to. When you’re at home it connects directly; when you’re away it routes through Tailscale.

This feature requires Tailscale to be set up first. See the Tailscale guide.

How it works

You register your home Wi-Fi network(s) in GivLocal. When your phone is connected to a known network, GivLocal connects to your inverter directly using the local IP. When on any other network, it connects via Tailscale automatically — no manual switching needed.

Note

Automatic switching requires the Location permission on iOS, which is used to detect the current Wi-Fi SSID. No location data is stored or transmitted.

Setup

1. Open Settings → Remote Access → Automatic Switching
2. Grant the Location permission if prompted
3. Tap Add Current Wi-Fi to register your home network, or tap Add Manually to enter an SSID by name
4. Your registered networks are listed with the option to remove them individually
5. Toggle Automatic Switching on

Once enabled, GivLocal handles the switch transparently whenever you move between networks.
